OK, I admit it.
My crutch word is just 'just'.
I use it and overuse it in my writing.
And just wonder how on earth the word can be placed so well in other books!
For Writers: Just a Crutch Word
Every writer has certain words that they use over and over even though they don't really help the picture book. I call them my crutch words. Here are some of mine:
When I see them in my blog posts or social media, I usually can smile and move on. But if I see them popping up in my writing, they become irritating fast. The problem is that crutch words don't actually add anything. They just fill the page with words.
What are your crutch words? One way to figure out what your favorite word choices are is to create a word cloud.
The biggest words are supposed to be the ones used the most in your sample.
