Just in Case by Yuyi Morales
This fun sequel to Just a Minute presents an anomaly to the whole established author idea. I heard Yuyi’s story during an online class at the Children’s Book Academy. Despite the fact that this book breaks many rules, it appeals on multiple levels. I mean, what other book could get away with having Death be such a lovable main character?
I could go on and on about how important it is to hook on more than one level, or you could skip all that and get the next installment of THE GREAT ALPHABET DISASTER.
Except for an empty Jelly Jar in the middle, J’s page was just plain… empty.
“Well, I don’t see my Ball, here, But I don’t want to jump to conclusions.” said B, wanting to at least throw out a j word.
“Yes,” A said, “even An empty jar can be A clue.”
“I Cannot Confirm nor deny the existence of a Clue here.” C concluded as the letters jumped onto the next page.
Did this page Jolt you? Just wait until tomorrow…
I write about, with, for, and around kids all day. (Well, maybe I do the dishes too. Sometimes.)
