I've heard that each of the 12 days of Christmas have spiritual significance. I don't know what the original partridge in a pear tree signifies, but as I contemplate the true meaning of Christmas, the first day brings to mind passages of scripture that reminds me of that partridge.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son...
What a wonderful gift! God sent his only son to a world lost in sin, that we might have a chance to be redeemed and brought back into God's presence.
I don't know whether the pear tree represents the tree of life, or whether the partridge represents the Savior, but that is one possible meaning I think of as I sing the song.
Know the original meaning of the first gift mentioned in the song? Share in the comments!
I write about, with, for, and around kids all day. (Well, maybe I do the dishes too. Sometimes.)
