So, here's the update on my goal for "getting rejected 24 times."
It might seem like a pathetic goal, but it's the only way I'm able to keep hitting that send button. When I set the goal to "query 24 agents" about a year ago, I kept panicking. "It's not ready," I told myself. And even if that's true, how could I know if I didn't hit send?
So I'm querying to get rejections now. The queries aren't really that different. I'm still doing my research, targeting agents and editors I think would be a good fit for me and my work, and continuing to hone my craft so that I have a better chance each time I query. But if I expect to be rejected then in some weird way the pressure lifts and I hit send.
And of course every send I hit takes me out of the land of "No" into the land of "Maybe"
As of today, I have three squares marked on my bingo sheet. (One is a free square.) That means I need to send a lot more queries out if I'm going to make my goal by December. :)
I write about, with, for, and around kids all day. (Well, maybe I do the dishes too. Sometimes.)
