Oh yeah, and I got another rejection.
Welcome to Rejection City! Hop on the Emotional Rollercoaster Tour Bus and I'll give you a tour!
I hope you brought your thick-skinned coat because the roads are bumpy and all uphill. Hang on tight, this ride is crazy!
1st Stop: Form Rejection Factory
On your left, you'll see the smog-filled skies of Form Rejection Factory. About 99% of the residents get stuck here breathing in the fumes. But we're in the top 1%, right? Let's move on.
Just outside of Form Rejection Factory is the longest-feeling road in history. This claustrophobic street seems to go on for miles simply because of its incessant quiet. Feel that chilling wind? That's coming from Cold Shoulder Lake, which you will see right about...
Cold Shoulder Lake
This historic site is where many dreams have been crushed. But pull your thick-skinned coats tighter, and we will skirt around this swampy bog as quickly as possible. Which is never quick enough.
This ever-present nontraditional route exists for anyone with the moxie to do it all on their own. Be careful, though. This path goes through Trailblazing Forrest where thinly veiled Vanity Press Monsters lurk and pounce. Our tour bus will not be going in that direction today, so if this is your chosen path, feel free to hop off anytime.
2nd Stop: Author Platform
On your right, you'll see your author platform. If you don't see anything, then you'll need to build one! Luckily, there are plenty of tools nearby to help you get started. For example, that's Social Media tower, over there is Website Construction Company, and those are the gateways to Online Writing Courses Golf Course. If you're a children's book writer may I recommend exclusive membership to Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
3rd Stop: Personalized Rejection Spa
Pamper yourself at the Personalized Rejection Spa. You're still being rejected, but at least you're getting a massage while it happens! Many revel in the praise here, but emerge refreshed and more determined than ever. Maybe you do too! You look amazing, by the way.
Final Stop: Request and Resubmit Railroad Station
On the borders of our fair city is the Request and Resubmit (affectionately known as the R&R). Trains with spacious compartments and seats as hard as rocks await you. Simply obtain a boarding pass, and you're on your way out of the city for good - until you write another manuscript.
End of Tour
Hope you enjoyed my little tour through Rejection City! I wrote this blog post as part of a goal-setting blog hop. My goal this year was to get rejected 24 times by filling up my rejection bingo sheet. I have 14 so far. In December, I'll be assessing how to get more rejections - or more hopefully an acceptance!
I write about, with, for, and around kids all day. (Well, maybe I do the dishes too. Sometimes.)
