I love Christmas.
I really do.
But it sure takes a toll on my writing.
I’ve hit a block in my current project, because, well, December.
I’ve got direction.
I’ve got a great direction.
But I just can’t get my BIC* because, well, December.
So why on EARTH am I blogging instead of working on my current project?
Number 1 – I’ve been neglecting you guys, and I’m late on BOTH the #GotGoals Blog Hop and #IWSG posts. (And I’m hoping "better late than never" by the way.)
Number 2 – I want to share a Christmas writing miracle that happened!
Here's What Happened:
So I was sitting there, blocked (not just ‘cause December) and I turned on the TV for inspiration.
If you are a writer, WATCH THIS MOVIE!
If you’re anything like me, you will understand so much about your own writing process from watching.
After that movie, I sat down and wrote – not words but ideas and new ways and questions, and...
I’m getting ahead of myself.
Because I ALSO learned what it was like to live with me.
My husband is a nonwriter.
Nonwriters can be godsends at certain times of your writing journey. They can have just the right idea or ask just the right questions when you are blocked – even when you don’t know it at the time.
They also don’t understand writers.
They don’t know how it is when we get in the grip of a story, worlds swirling around us, characters screaming at us, and we can’t shut them up or shut them out unless we get our BIC* and just write it down. (And at the same time how we secretly revel in those moments of inspiration!)
Nonwriters don’t get any of that. Stories don’t invade their dreams, disrupt their breakfast, catch them in the shower when they’re dripping wet but can’t wait to get somewhere to write that down!
Yet, somehow they must love us writers because for some reason they hang around to see what adventure we’ll take them on next.
And we need them, too, to keep us (mostly) down to earth.
So here's to the Writers who are probably more crazy than anyone is willing to admit.
And here's to the NonWriters who somehow have big enough hearts to love crazy people.
God Bless us, Every One.
For the Got Goals Part:
My goal this month is have a Merry Christmas, and maybe get my BIC* at least once or twice
For the IWSG Part:
Have you ever found inspiration from another writer’s process?
Has a movie ever inspired you to write?
*BIC stands for Butt In Chair
I write about, with, for, and around kids all day. (Well, maybe I do the dishes too. Sometimes.)
