Live from the WORLD WIDE WEB, the moment you've all been waiting for...
It's Halloweensie Time!
with your host Susanna Leonard Hill!

The rules are simple: write a halloween story 100 words or less using the words creep, mask, and skeleton. The story must have kid-appeal, and you can enter more than once.

And now, let's meet one of the contestants – All the way from the West Coast of America, please welcome...

JEN Garrett
“Hello, hello! I'm so excited!”
OK, JEN, show us your entry!

The Witch's Butler

By JEN Garrett
Poor witch's butler is
never invited to the Witches Halloween Ball
But 2020 is his year, because...
                masks are required.

He creeps past his sleeping boss,
                  grabs the spare broom...
                                                            and flies!

“Mr. Witch, what big dark eyes you have,”
The better to seek out ingredients
“What thin hands you have,”
The better to cast this spell!

Fake Mr. Witch dances on bony feet.
“You're not a witch!” the others screech.

        Skeleton is unmasked.

But wait! He flew on a broom,
brewed and spelled as good as anyone.

Who says a bony man can't be a witch?

Well, that was a lovely entry. Be sure to post the link on Susanna's website!

“Oh, I will, I will!”

And for all you folks at home, be sure to post your link or entry, too, because you could win:
FABULOUS PRIZES!
(Go drool -er- see them on Susanna's website!)

Thanks! I tried to comment on yours, but I have this years-long war with Wordpress, and I don't know if you saw it. Yours was fun, too, with poor Skeleton in a pandemic world. https://jilannehoffmann.com/2020/10/30/pandemic-halloween-halloweensie/

Yep, 2020 does have afford a *few* opportunities among the craziness!
I enjoyed yours as well. We need those characters to save Halloween!

Readers of your blog are lucky that you are so prolific - two great Halloweensie stories!

I especially loved #2.

Well, sure! If he can fly and dance like a witch, why not?

Exactly! Thanks for stopping by.
I loved your Halloweensie story, as well, Skarla is a Skeleton I'd want to get to know in a picture book!

Fun story. Love that 2020 is his year because masks are required! Clever.

Thanks! and was that your daring scare story on Susanna's website?
I normally don't comment on her page to make it a *little* easier to find the entries, but your story was so fun with its sibling dynamic!

Ha ha, yep!

Every year, I just write the first or so story that pops in my head. Maybe not the best strategy if I want to win, but I do it mostly as extra writing practice.

I loved your story, too! I think all Puppies secretly hope they are werewolves.

How nice! His wish came true *and* it looks like he'll get to go again next year.

Yes, I'm sure he will! And maybe his Ghost friend will be able to come along. ;)
Thanks for visiting, and I loved your story, too!

I love your MC, a witch's butler, and the way you alluded to Little Red Riding Hood. Fabulous!
