I once heard an editor say that a book needs to hook on at least three levels. For example, does the book…
Connect with educational curriculum?
Have universal humor?
Convey a deep subtle but important message?
Star a relatable, lovable main character?
Tell an engaging story?
Blend or cross cultural lines?
Present an old idea in a fresh new light?
Evoke an emotional response in the reader?
Or draw the reader in somehow?
Any one of these would help sell your book, but you need at least three of these for your book to be truly marketable in today’s publishing arena. And I hope you are hooked enough to read the next installment of THE GREAT ALPHABET DISASTER.
